This item was sold in two versions between 1911 and 1938. From 1911 through 1913, this was made to reduce 220 volts DC to levels required to run toy trains. A 110-volt DC version was sold from 1911 through 1938. During these periods, some parts of New York City had Direct Current, rather than the alternating current now standard throughout the United States.Lionel
